The price of an engagement ring is determined by a number of factors. Understanding each of these factors helps you make an informed choice when selecting your perfect engagement ring.

• Natural or Lab-Grown – Whether the diamond of an engagement ring is natural or lab-grown significantly impacts the price of an engagement ring.
• Diamond Choice – with a natural diamond, the size and quality is the most significant factor in the price of an engagement ring. There are four features that determine the worth of a diamond: its cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. These features are explained in more detail here
• Metal Choice – The metal you choose for your engagement ring can also impact the price. We generally recommend using platinum or 18ct white, yellow or rose gold in your engagement ring. Traditionally, platinum being the purest and rarest of the metals was a higher price than gold, however, recently the price of gold has increased significantly, so there is currently only a slight difference in price between platinum and 18ct gold jewellery.
• Accent diamonds – The size and number of diamonds in addition to your main diamond will also affect the price of your engagement ring. Each small diamond needs to be matched and set perfectly in order to achieve the quality and consistency that we demand of each Thomas Meihofer piece.
